The pet shops are genuine businesses serving Parisians, not tourist traps, so prices for plants run €15-50 for decent specimens. Skip the stretch closest to Pont au Change where foot traffic gets heavy from nearby Châtelet. Focus on the Pont Neuf end where the plant selection is better and you'll have the riverside promenade mostly to yourself between tour groups.
